I have a canon ImageRunner 2870 that I bought second hand. I have also purchased the PDL Network Printer Kit E1 which is supposed to support this model. Once I put in the new boot ROM and memory, I ahve access to the printer menu etc, am able to put in an IP address and to ping the machine from my computer and ping my computer from the machine. I downloaded the Driver from Canon (tried PCL5e, PCL6, and UFF driver packages. Everything seems to look like it is alright, but when I attempt to print, items just stay in the spooler in windows. I then tried to hook the USB cable up directly to the IR2870. Windows recognized the device, loaded the drivers, and created a printer for me. When I print using USB, the machine acts like it is recieving data, but nothing prints. When I look at the log via System Monitor | Print | Log There are entries for the files I attempted to print. When I look at the details on one of those documents I get the following
Start Time 07/21/2011 21:15
End Time 07/21/2001 21:15
Dept. ID ---------
Job Type Printer
Document Name Test Page
User myuser
Sheet x Copies _ 0x _ 0

On the log menu it also list the result as NG

I also noticed that an install guide I found for the UFF drivers lists that if you go to the printer settings menu there should be two choices one titled "Settings" and one titled "Utilities". Mine only has the "Settings" choice. No clue on that one. Unfortunately I bought this second hand, so I'm have a lot of trouble locating users guides, service manuals. Instructions on the PDL Printer kit, etc. Any help would be hugely appreciated!

What driver are you using? PS, PCL or UFR?

Well, after some more investigation. It turns out that I believe they sent me incorrect boot rom. By checking COPIER->ACC-STS->PDL-FNC1 all bits are "0" and kb states that 3 of them should be "1" if the PDL kit is installed. I removed the boot rom sent to me, and compared it to the original boot rom, and I don't see any differances in the part numbers, chip designation, etc. Although the pakaging stated it was a PDL Network Printer Kit E1, I personally think someone at the store I purchased from, replaced and original boot rom with the PDL rom, and put the original back into the PDL's bag, and somehow it made it's way back into inventory. I have contacted them and sent it back so they can test another one and send it to me. So apparently all of the troubleshooting I did on this was for naught since the kit really wasn't installed. For those having the same issue listed in my statement, ensure that you actually have the propoer boot rom by checking the registers, unfortunately it never occured to me that the rom sent might not have been correct since I'm new to this copier type. I will update this thread when the new rom comes. Also...Is there anyone out there that has both a PDL boot rom, and the orginal boot rom, that can identify any differance I can look for on numbers on the chip/board to distinguish that I in fact have the correct rom? Also, could use a list of vendors in the states if this particular store fails to send me the correct one, willing/prefer to buy second hand since cost is an issue.

OK, now the company I bought the printer kit has sent me another boot rom. Both the original boot rom I bought the copier with and the one they sent me have part number FM2-3117. With either rom in place, COPIER->ACC-STS->PDL-FNC1 all bits are "0" indicating from what I have read and wheat a local tech has told me means that the PDL kit is not in place. I contacted the company Galaxy Copiers again, and they sent me a nasty note the the correct boot rom was sent both times. Can anyone confirm the part number for the printer kit boot rom? Online, I'm finding that the printer kit should be part number 9593A003AA or 9593A006AA, but perhaps this is not the case for the part number of the boot rom itself. My suspicion is that what they sent me last is still just an ordinary IR2870 boot rom without print function (which would explain why they are able to sell if for $150 rather than $700, even though they clearly advertise it as PDL Printer Kit E1. Even if the FM2-3117 is a printer boot room and not the E1 version, is it compatible, and could someone give me some guidance as to what might be going wrong. As mentioned, All bits in COPIER->ACC-STS->PDL-FNC1 are zero. Does this apply only to the E1 kit, or if I have had the right part all along, is there something I need to do other than plugging it in for the machine to recognize it? If I'm incorrect in expecting these registers to change and this is in fact a printer kit for the IR2870, is there some mismatch that is preventing me from printing, as I've tried both network and USB and both just give me an NG error. Galaxy is requesting that I send the boot rom back and will be processed with a refund, but I'm becoming more and more skeptical with them as time goes on, and also am pretty sure they don't intend to recoop my shipping costs for the two other times I've sent them back as well as the original shipping cost.

Also to answer your posted question, I believe I have tried all of those drivers to no avail, but not sure if I tried each accordingly with both network and USB, but can try that if it is determined they should be compatible with my part.

you would just set up a standard tcp/ip printer with the 3570 UFRII drivers unless you needed pcl or postscript.

Make sure it has a hard drive and check you software versions.

OK, have confirmed with canon that the part number for the boot rom I have is correct for the PDL Kit E1. I've heard some conflicting things on this particular model which again is an IR2870. One tech has told me that I need to load new software on the harddrive (I assume he meant what canon refers to as firmware, even though in computer speak firmware would be loaded onto an embedded board not a hard driver). I'm hoping this is not the case because in order to do this I would need both the program to load the updated software from my computer and the updated software package, neither of which do I have access to unless I'm a licensed canon tech, which I am not. I'm simply a guy that bought a copier second hand and wants to use it as a printer as well. The second tech told me that you can go to a website and purchase a license (I have seen referances for this on other models but not my particular model) and the website will ask for my model number and serial number and return with a key that I can put into the copier and it will unlock the printer functions. Can you confirm which of these procedures if either is necessary to enable printing on an IR2870 after a new PDL Kit E1 is installed, and if so help on the procedure to go throught to complete the correct one.
To answer the question in posted by lostintexas:
I do see a section under printer, but not with the amount of items that the manual says should be there. the manual lists items like printing preferance etc, but when I go to printer there is a single entry that can be changed and nothing about printing preferances, which makes me assume that the printing is not enabled. Also checking COPIER->ACC-STS->PDL-FNC1 and finding all bits are "0" makes me assume that printing is not enabled. I originally assumed installing the new boot rom alone would enable these bits, but that doesn't appear to be the case, so I need to know if it is new software that would pick up these bits, or entering a keystring in the license section that would do it, and if so what is the website to get to the keystring. I will also be double schecking the specific driver 3570 UFRII.

I appreciate any help on this I can get since I'm fairly technical savoy, but not a canon tech. I'm also not trying to avoid getting a canon tech out to my house, I just don't have easy access to one to get there since most of the ones in my small town only work on contracts which is more than overkill for someone that bought the copier just to supliment his DJ business.
