Hi and welcmoe to the forum.

My wife complains about the amount of time I spend with my soldering iron and voltmeter. Is there a happy medium I choose to obtain a range of resistors or is auto the best option.

OK. Lets put you to the test.Posted Image I have a PC that just came to me with a constant reboot problem. XP Home, 1gb ram, no frills machine. Memory test was good. All add-on cards removed. Short of a reload, what next. Seriously. I think the thing has AIDS. By the way, the HDD was replaced about 6 months ago.

Does it do this with a "live" cd from a flavor of ubuntu or just the windows that is on the hard drive? If both then read on, if not then it is a reload that is needed.
When I have come across this and have ruled out hard drive and memory, I suspect either power supply, on/off/reset switch (sticks, cracked insulation) or a over heating issue (processor fan) or processor.

If it can get on line go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run that. It finds lots of nasty's and cleans them up.

I have an old 20gb drive wit windows 98 on it that I use for such purposes. I just plug it in and if the machine fires up the motherboard and such is good. The owner of this particular computer is well...................sorta strange. I've had to reload it about 6 times in the last year. Makes me want to wear rubber gloves.

Dont know, It wont come to ready so to speak. I think there is a viral component to the equation considering the owner. I refuse to pull the drive and hook it up to any of my stuff, so he gets a fresh install and will loose anything he has stored on it. Like I said, this aint the first time this machine has been brought in needing antibiotics. He pay's so I fix.
